Alexander Burker

Hello, I am

Alexander Burker

Software Engineer and Hobbyist Photographer

I currently develop touch-screen kiosk software and custom IoT solutions for my employer, along with applications for Android and iOS. I have over five years of experience in application development. Outside of work, I enjoy traveling, hiking, food and photography.

About Me

App Development

I enjoy working across the full stack of an application, bringing together its user interfaces, services, processing, storing and presenting data. Working across all pieces helps me to keep sight of the big picture.

Software Engineering

Good engineering starts with understanding the details before writing code. I value clear separation of concerns, discoverable code, explicit dependencies, and documentation that guides readers through a project.

Team Collaboration

Helping a team work well together is rewarding for me. I use open communication, code reviews, mentoring, and finding good compromises to work toward shared goals and make room for different perspectives.

Self Hosting

My server provides privacy for my data, and I can take responsibility for the systems I use in my daily life. File synchronization, note-taking, photo sharing, code hosting, hiking trail planning, anything is possible.

Photography

I adore my camera; it allows me to focus on the world around me, and preserve memories that I can share. Outside of nature photography, which I publicly show, I also like to get creative when I'm with my family.

Vienna

This is my home, and I'm grateful to live and work here. Vienna is a buzzing city, rich in art and culture, that also balances well with public parks, swimming spots along the Danube, and woods in Lobau or Wienerwald.

2023

I started to really get into photography

Upgraded my camera, and started a one photo a day challenge for one year.

2017 - 2022

Doctors degree

TU Wien - Technical Physics

Carried out measurements with a demonstrator system for proton computed tomography. Explored hardware requirements for a new implementation, based on Monte-Carlo simulations.

2013 - 2016

Masters degree

TU Wien - Biomedical Engineering

Studied medical physics, imaging, biomechanics, biomedical signal processing and some computational biology.

2013

My first DSLR

Nikon D60

2008 - 2013

Bachelors degree

TU Wien - Technical Physics

Studied basic knowledge of modern physics and the mathematics to support it.

Photography

I mostly share photos of the things I come across that inspire me: wildlife, vegetation, weather, or odd places where the natural meets with the impacts humanity. Here's a growing collection of scenes that I liked. Maybe you like them too?
